The Day of the Lord
Bro. Eric Sankey
More than 24 bible prophecies which point to the exact biblical year of the Messiah's first and second comings. You may remember those who were ready and waiting at the temple when Jesus' mother took him for the first time. How did they know he would be born at that time? And, if the prophecies that predicted his first coming were accurate and able to be understood, would it not be reasonable to expect the same degree of confidence in predicting his second coming?
There are many prophecies throughout the scriptures that hint to the time of the return of Christ. Why haven't believers been able to decipher these scriptures to know exactly when Jesus will return like he and his Father promised? Some say we aren't supposed to know when the return will be! But in Daniel 12:9-10, after revealing much of the future to Daniel through signs and symbols, the angel says, ..."Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand." As we witness prophecies get fulfilled, and world events rush headlong to that triumphant return of Jesus, more opportunities arise to help us understand the meaning of these prophecies and to decipher the time of the return of Jesus. This week we will discuss many prophecies that give us times and seasons that point us to the "Day of the Lord", some obvious and many less obvious. Our goal this week is to go through each one of these prophecies to show and reinforce the 7000-year timeline in the scriptures and especially to focus on the return date of our Messiah. I Thess. 5:4-6 says, "But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober."
